We are sad to announce that on August 21, 2025, at the age of 92, Matilda Gavigan of East Haven, Connecticut passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her husband Frederick Paul Gavigan; and her parents, Augustine Marelli and Louise Marelli. She is survived by: her brother Augustine; her children, Cindie Petersen (David) of Branford, Paul Gavigan (Louise) of East Haven and Robert Gavigan (Kathleen) of Branford; her grandchildren, Kara (Mark), Casey (Christopher), Brianna, Dana (Taylor), Bradley, Sam, Sophia and Michaela; and her great grandchildren, Poppy, Emma, Christopher, Rosemary and Augustine.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 25th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the W.'s. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home (244 N Main St, Branford, CT 06405). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 26th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. Vincent DePaul Church (80 Taylor Ave, East Haven, CT 06512).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, where Mattie was recently recognized for her over 40 years of consistent contributions.
