He was predeceased by: his parents, Mamie Hunter Hartness and Blanton Alvin Hartness. He is survived by: his wife Ruth McCune Hartness; his children, Angela H. Smith (Jim), Blanton A. Hartness, II (Kim), Scott M. Hartness and W. Hunter Hartness (Susan); his grandchildren, Kimberly Hunter Hartness, Sean Hartness (Marisol), Libby Spain (Jason), Alex Smith (Julie) and Brandon Smith; his great grandchildren, Maribell Spain, Guy Spain and Tessa Smith; and his siblings, Alvin Hartness (Shirley) and Crystal Leathers (Bill). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 25th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church (205 W Winder St, Henderson, NC 27536).
