He was predeceased by: his wife Sherry Thornton (Wurtzbacher); his children, Kristen, Tom Pham of Wyoming, MI, Don Thornton of Midland, Nancy, Russell Pnacek of Midland, Susan, Dave Perry of Belmont, MI and Matt Thornton of Midland; and his mother Ina Thornton (Kuuttila).
He is survived by: his grandchildren, Jamison Pnacek of Midland, Elizabeth Pnacek of Midland, Grace Pnacek of Chicago, Amanda, Ben Parker of Trufant, MI, Alivia and Nate DeWitt of Detroit; his sister Ina Mae Smith of Cadillac, MI; his close friends, Ron Keller and Spencer Korson; his father Don Thornton; and also, Nancy Korona and Judy Bailey. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 2nd 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church (3701 Jefferson Ave, Midland, MI 48640). A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 2nd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. The military honors will be held on Friday, May 2nd 2025 from 12:00 PM to 12:15 PM at the same location. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 2nd 2025 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the Larkin Township Cemetery - Midland (2678 N Sturgeon Rd, Midland, MI 48642).
In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Chippewa Nature Center and/or a nonprofit of donor's choice in his honor.
