It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Maria Barreira Pita of Shelton, Connecticut, who passed away on April 20, 2026, at the age of 84, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Jose Barreira and Herminia Taveira Barreira; her brothers, Belmiro and Norberto Barreira; and her nephew Joe Barreira.
She is survived by: her husband Jose M. Pita; her sons, Carlos Pita, Jose Paul Pita, Jorge Manuel Pita and Michael Barreira Pita; and her siblings, Jose Barreira Jr., Dora Barreira, Fernanda Gomes, Zulmira Santos, Silvia Barreira Costa (Americo), Odette Barreira Schooley (Tomasz) and Natalia Pereira (Gustavo). She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and Godchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 27th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home (419 White Plains Rd, Trumbull, CT 06611). A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, April 27th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Our Lady of Fatima Church (429 Huntington Rd, Bridgeport, CT 06608). A burial will be held on Monday, April 27th 2026 at 12:30 PM at the Lawncroft Cemetery (1740 Black Rock Turnpike, Fairfield, CT 06825).
