He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Michael Cooney and Margaret Cooney (Quinlan); his brother Jim Cooney; his daughter-in-law Ricki Ortega-Cooney; his former wife Pauline (Rainsford) of Ridgefield, CT; his sister-in-law Brigid Cooney of Rathdrum; his nephews, David of Port Washington, NY and Michael of Otto, NC; his daughters, Margaret (Matthew Bagley) of Rye, NY, Deirdre (Mark DiSanto) of Broad Channel, NY, Adrienne (Brian Kenny) of South Salem, NY and Tricia (Tyler Peck) of New York, NY.; James, Eleanor, Esther, Michael, Billy, Paddy, Martin and Patricia. He was also cherished by spouses, partners and children.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 9th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, on Wednesday, September 10th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Park Funeral Chapels (2175 Jericho Tpke, Garden City Park, NY 11040). A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 10th 2025 at 9:45 AM at the St. Brigid's R. C. Church (75 Post Ave, Westbury, NY 11590). A burial will be held on Wednesday, September 10th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Melville Cemetery (498 Sweet Hollow Rd, Melville, NY 11747).
