It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John C. Townsell Sr. of East Moline, Illinois, who passed away on May 21, 2025, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Grant Townsell, Sr. and Essie Townsell (Jefferson); his wife Edna Townsell; his son Timothy Johnson; and his brothers, C. Townsend and Grant Townsell, Jr..
He is survived by: his children, Nenda Tyson (Dena) of East Moline, IL and John Townsell, Jr. (Mei) of Wayne, PA; his grandchildren, Alex Tyson, John C. Townsell III and Victoria Townsell; his siblings, Frank Townsell, Sr. of East Moline, IL., Joe L. Townsell, Sr. (Glenda) of Galesburg, IL, Carrie B. Akers, Rosie L. Townsell of East Moline, IL., Sallie Townsell of Galesburg, IL. and Evora Baker of Indianapolis; his close friend Letha Birch of Rock Island, IL.; and his siblings-in-law, Oran Turner (Bernice) of East Moline, IL, Carol Jean Hooks of Omaha, NE., Sharon Parks of Rock Island, IL., Rose Turner of Carson, CA and Catherine Turner of Bellwood, IL.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 28th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church (1501 6th Ave, East Moline, IL 61244). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 28th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
