He was predeceased by: his adoptive parents, Russel Thorne and Maude Vincent Thorne. He is survived by: his wife Mary Francelle Thorne; his sister Elizabeth Anne Stout of Naperville, Illinois; his children, William "Woody" Thorne (Rita) and Frances Anne Van Norman (Greg); his grandchildren, Mary Heltsley (Jarrod), Chuck Lauder (Paige), Michelle Murphy (Dugan), Mitch Lauder, Chris Van Norman, Julia Van Norman and Ellie Van Norman; and his great grandchildren, Hannah Heltsley, Harper Heltsley, Alayna Lauder, Alexa Lauder, Austin Lauder and Rollins Murphy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 8th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM at the Meredith Funeral Home (300 S University Ave, Carbondale, IL 62901). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 8th 2025 at 5:30 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the SIH Foundation and SIU Athletics.
