He was predeceased by: his parents, Ed Mathes and Hilda Mathes (Ruh); his siblings, Earl Mathes (Betty Mathes), June Wagy, Bernice Gutche (Marvin "Pete"), Elvira Kanz (Darwin) and Hal Mathes (Clara); his son-in-law Robert Cwiertniak; and his siblings-in-law, Carol Bahr and Gerald Brill.
He is survived by: his wife Lora Froehlich; his daughters, Linda Mathes and Kris Mathes; his sister Elaine Malchow (Vern); his siblings-in-law, Janet Vielhaber (Ernie) and Gene Bahr; and the mother of his children Ruth Cook. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 9th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on Wednesday, September 10th 2025 from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM at the Bethlehem United Church of Christ (11608 Lax Chapel Rd, Kiel, WI 53042). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 10th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
