He was predeceased by: his parents, William Harkner and Grace Evelyn Harkner (Treat); his stepmother Violet Harkner (Linder); his parents-in-law, Spencer and Verna Steine; his brothers, Richard, Bruce and William Treat Harkner; his siblings-in-law, Stanley Bernette, David Hansen, Dennis Yeskie, Mary Jane Hansen and Lavon Harkner; and his siblings' children, Scott David Hansen, John David Hansen, Timothy Harkner, Brian Harkner, David Harkner, William Craig Harkner, Sue Ann Harkner, Barbara Harrison (Harkner) and Kathy Heath (Harkner).
He is survived by: his wife Judith Elizabeth Steine; his children, Jeffrey (Elisabeth), Marianne Torkelson (Troy) and Joel (Kimberly); his grandchildren, Elizabeth Kiel (Tyler), Sydney Harkner, Thomas Torkelson (Kate), Aaron Harkner, Lauren Harkner, Caroline Harkner, Seth Harkner and Jackson Harkner; his great grandchildren, Hattie Elaine Neville and Elyse Jae Kiel; his sister Jean Overlien; and his siblings-in-law, Gert Harkner, Rita Ann Bernette, Joan Yeskie and Gregory Steine (Becky). He is also survived by many extended family members, friends, and neighbors.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 19th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, September 20th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Evangelical Lutheran Church (115 N 5th St, Black River Falls, WI 54615). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 20th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jackson County Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers, or to the St. Croix Hospice Black River Falls branch.
