It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Shirley Opalene Cotton of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, who passed away on March 30, 2025, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
As we bid Shirley farewell, let us not mourn the absence of her physical form, but rather celebrate the essence of her spirit that lingers in the spaces between moments. For Shirley is not truly gone, but merely transformed, her energy intertwined with the fabric of the universe itself, forever dancing among the stars.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Robert Cotton, Sr. and Rosa Lee Guice Cotton; and her siblings, Willie Guice (Jennie), Lamar Cotton (Jenell), Henry Cotton Sr. (Mary Lou), Fred Cotton, Robert Cotton, Argertha Pace Works (Willie), Rosa Nell Baker (Sylvester) and Dorthy N. Reaves (Alexander).
She is survived by: her niece Candace. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, April 4th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Davis-Watkins Funeral Home Chapel (1474 FL-83, Defuniak Springs, FL 32433). A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 5th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
