He was predeceased by: his parents, Fannie L. Cotton Bighems and Emanuel Bighems; his wife Ida Elizabeth Gamble Bighems; his grandmother Rachel Knight Walker; and his siblings, John Bighems, Curtis C. Bighems, Joe Nathan Brown, Mary C. Brown and Irene V. Smith.
He is survived by: his grandfather Joseph L. Cotton; his children, Elder James Michael Bighem, Sr. (Sylvia), Marvin Brown (Dorothy), Delana Haynes (Cookie), Felix Bighem (Quintonia), Lori Bighems and Elisha Donnell (Nate); and his close friend Shellie Johnson. He is also survived by grandfather and great-grandfather, leaving behind a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sunday, September 14th 2025 from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM at the M. Sue & Rodney D. Pittman Chapel (5441 Cooper St, Graceville, FL 32440). A celebration of life was held on Monday, September 15th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Heaven Cemetery (2106 Starling Rd, Dothan, AL 36303).
