It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mavis McGowan of Perry, Florida, who passed away on September 15, 2025, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Hughie Pope Poppell and Lula Bell Starling Poppell; her husband Raymond McGowan; her siblings, Weldon Poppell, Dan Poppell, Doug Poppell, Warren Poppell, Delano Poppel, Sybil Archer, Era Bell Williams and Nancy Shaw; and her son-in-law Jeff Bass.
She is survived by: her daughters, Diane Bass, Barbara Weaver (Luke) and Brenda Blanton; her grandchildren, Pamala Mash, Jessica Weekly, Johnathan Bass, Lori Yates, Luke Weaver Jr., Joshua Weaver and Ryan Blanton; her siblings, Rachel Sapp, Kenny Poppell and Mary Ann Moulton; and her brother-in-law John Shaw. She is also survived by great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 18th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Joe P. Burns Funeral Home- Perry (1400 N Johnson Stripling Rd, Perry, FL 32347). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 18th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.
